Apr. 3, 2008 (China Knowledge) – China has made the decision to enforce highway toll exemptions for trucks carrying food at the end of the year, which was initially planned on Mar. 31, in an effort to support the country's agriculture sector.
The government is striving to step up support for the country's agriculture sector and further reduce the transportation costs for fresh agriculture products, according to an official with the Ministry of Transportation.
Previously, China has prolonged its "green channel" service, which opened for vehicles carrying agriculture products toll-fee of seven major arteries, from Feb. 7 to Mar. 31 as a snow-disaster relief measure.
The seven arteries are the north-south Yinchuan-Kunming, Hohhot-Nanning, Beijing-Haikou, Harbin-Haikou and Shanghai-Haikou routes, and the east-west Lianyungang-Urumqi and Shanghai-Lhasa routes.
